After breakfast you have an early transfer to Gamboa for a Fishing Day at Lake Gatun. Gatun Lake offer some of the best fresh water sport fishing in the world. Feel the excitement as you hook a Peacock Bass. You can be sure our guides know the spots to find the big ones! Fishermen are always impressed by the abundance and variety of fish in Gatun Lake at the Panama Canal. This lake is home to species such as peacock bass, tarpon, snook, and many others. Since these fish are so plentiful, there are no limits or restrictions. Surrounded by the peace and tranquility of lush tropical forests, this is a great tour to also enjoy the beauty of nature that Lake Gatun Panama offers. (Maximum 3 people per boat.)
In what used to be a jungle, Gatun Lake was built during the construction of the Panama Canal. Gatun Lake is now the second largest man-made lake in the world (after Lake Mead) and lies in the middle of the Panama Canal. At 85 feet above sea level, the lake is a major highway for ships traveling from the Atlantic to the Pacific.Gatun Lake is the home of the cichla monoculus, aka “peacock bass” or “sargento” as the locals call them. The peacock bass came from a private pond many miles from the Chagres River. This pond was breached during a heavy tropical rain storm causing the walls to collapse and releasing the Peacock Bass into the Gatun basin. Gatun Lake is so loaded with fish; it is not uncommon for a group of 4 to catch 200 fish in a half day trip! Check in at the luxury Gamboa Resort in the afternoon. ( B, L )

Day 5 Gamboa – Fishing at Las Perlas
After breakfast you have an early transfer to a transfer to Balboa Yacht Club where we will board your Private 35 Footer Boat or similar for a Day of Fishing at Las Perlas Archipelago. “The Archipelago of Las Perlas" (the Pearl Islands) is made up of over 40 islands, many of them uninhabited. The white sand beaches fall off into waters abundant with fish. Located off the Pacific coast of Panama it is one of the country’s most valuable treasures as evident in the pristine natural beauty, abounding marine life and rich history. Sport fishing is second to none in the Pearl Islands;
in fact, over 200 International Game and Fishing Association (IFGA) records have been broken in the waters surrounding the Pearl Islands. It is commonplace to see such marine life as dolphins, whales, sea turtles and whale sharks (as impressive in their size as in their gentleness) cruising between the Pearl Island’s many colorful, underwater coral gardens, and secluded sandy beaches. Fishing in Panama is seasonal yet there is no bad season, just different types of fish. In the summer months (December-May) the seas are flooded with pargo (red snapper), mero (grouper) and amberjack. The ocean temperature drops during these months and the bottom dwelling fish will move to the surface and hit surface lures. The hottest part of the pargo season is February through March. There are often swarms of feeding fish behind the island of Pacheca. The sea literally turns orange from the fish in a feeding frenzy on top of the water. There is also great bottom fishing throughout the islands at this time of year. The outer islands harbor large jack, tuna, wahoo and sailfish. This area is a fisherman's paradise, abundant with Dorado, Sailfish, Yellowfin tuna, Rooster fish, and of course the Blue and Black Marlin. It's also where the Survivor Show picked Las Perlas 3 times to film their series as it is remote, beautiful and wild! Return to Pier around 4:00 P.M. and back to the Gamboa Resort. ( B, L)
